Matariki learning

Today we walked to Te Oro in GI - Glen innes for our work because we are learning about Matariki - Maori new year. When we got inside the huge building we could see a miniture version of Te oro. We waited to go inside the auditorium and talked about as we waited. When we got inside the auditorium  we got split into 3 groups- year 4 year 5 and year 6 my group -  Year 5 made Maori patterns - Koru - pikopiko, Niho - Teeth and Mangupare - Hammerhead shark. The other groups made clay are and made a wishing star out of flax - Harakeke, Pohutikawa is one of the 7-9 sisters. At the end of the sesion we showed what we made and the people who presented got a little prize for being brave.

Epic Slime Fail!!!

In room 9 we made really sticky and rippy slime. The slime didn’t turn out how we wanted to be but we still had fun.

First we put PVA (3 mississippi) glue into a big bowl.
Secondly we put dye (Food colouring) into the bowl.
We mixed the dye with the glue and the counted to 2 mis
sissippi as we added shaving foam.

We mixed it while pouring activator in the bowl. Most of our slimes failed but it was fun to make. We made 2 big batches but one failed and
turned into liquid.

Panipopo

Today our class (Rm 9) made Panipopo.

We got split into 6 groups and I grouped with Kymani and Venia. We all got a turn to punch the dough which was pretty fun. Then miss cut the dough and gave each group a piece of dough.
We kneaded the dough and cut it the size of two fingers. After we cut the dough we put it in a tray and made mini ones with the extras. After we finished  we poured Coconut cream, Warm Water and sugar into a bowl then poured it into the tray. Then Mrs. Faalili pre heated the oven and left them in the oven to cook. The bell rang and we ran to class to enjoy the Panipopo. We ate the Panipopo but I couldnt finish my one so I left it. We gave our siblings a Panipopo because we made to much. Finally we chucked out the trays andsat on the mat.

How The Coconut Came To Samoa Retold By Monique.

How The Coconut Came To Samoa.
           Retold by Monique.

Long long ago in Savaii there was a girl named Sina and an eel.
Every night they talked and swam in the moonlight.

Slowly as the eel grew he fell in love with Sina and he told her he was a prince and became
bigger and more demanding for her love and that scared her so she  escaped from the eel
through the village.

Despite the attempts to get away from him, he would follow her through the water. She became
more frightened and ran to her Uncle and cousin and told them what happend. Then the cousin
challenged the eel and severed the head of the eel. The eel told Sina to bury his head and she did.

Finally a coconut tree sprouted from the ground, the three holes were the face of the eel, the
eyes and the mouth.  Every time she drank from the coconut she was in fact kissing the eel.

That is how the coconut came to Samoa.

The End..
