PENCIL

PENCIL

BY MONIQUE

The pencil was cheap looking, it had bites on the sides . It's saving grace was that it was sharp, very sharp. Sharp enough to be used as a weapon for protection. I usually pretended that my pencil was like a sword used for battling. Teeth marks at the top from someone  chewing it (the dummy)  made it look like rubbish from the bin. The wrecked  pencil is now a decoration and reusable. My bitten pencil can still write and does the trick for now...

MATARIKI

 MATARIKI

  A MAORI CELEBRATION

When the Matariki stars appear it is the beginning of the Maori new year

We CELEBRATE Matariki  like we celebrate Christmas, Halloween, our birthdays etc.

Like sisters the stars shine BRIGHT  like the raging sun.

Matariki is a time for JOY,  like spending time with family and friends.

It is a time to learn like when you're learning new things at school.

It is a time to plant crops like potatoes, wheat, tomatoes, kumara and pumpkin.

It is a time to fish and hunt animals.

It is a time to make things like flax Kete and spears.

It is a time to forgive and forget.

Matatriki reminds me of when we celebrate Christmas because we give gifts on Matariki.

Life Education

Yesterday and Today we learned to put ourselves in other peoples shoes.

Shake our emotions off and don't make it a big deal. For eg.

(If someone is feeling down, put yourself in there position and see how they feel.)

Integrity

Integrity means to always listen even when no one is near you. For example picking rubbish when no one is looking.

Or maybe showing integrity before school by getting ready, by brushing your hair, wearing the right uniform or charging your chrome book.

Getting to school before or just at 8:30 to get ready for class.
